Carol Park, Bucharest
Carol park is situated on the Filaretului hill , and was designed by the French architect E. Redont. The park was officially inaugurated in 1907 to celebrate 40 years of King Carol I’ s kingdom. Originally, the park stretched out on a surface of 36 hectares, and was later extended to today’s 45 hectares.
There is a lake in the park, crossed by a marble bridge, which leads to some tree-lined alleys, ideal to make pleasant walks.

The main attractions of the park are:
- The Cantacuzino fountain: the neoclassical fountain was built in 1870, with a decorated facade and low relieves representing the coat of arms of medieval knights.
- The statues of the giants : a work by the sculptor Dumitru Paciurea;
- The Heroes' monument : Â made in 1962 by the sculptors Horia Maicu and Vasile Cucu;
- The Monument of the Unknown Soldier : moved here from Mărăşeşti in 1991;
- IThe Technical Museum Inginer Dimitrie Leonidaâ€: inaugurated in 1909;
- The Fountain of the Zodiac
- The Astronomical Institute
- The Roman arenas : with a capacity of 5000 seats, the arenas play host to box and wrestling matches.
- The lake , stretched on a surface of two hectares.  Â
