Situated north of Bucharest , on the area once occupied by the homonymous lake, Herastrau is the biggest city park. Since 1806, wealthy people of the bourgeoisie used to walk on the shores of the lake.
As the park occupies a large surface, it was divided into two distinctive parts:
one part is more suitable for socio-cultural activities, and includes libraries, reading areas, a space for the game of chests, two pavilions for exhibitions, two theatres and several benches for relax.
The other part is more recreational, and dedicated to sport and entertainment, where cyclists, breakdancers and skateboarders love to gather every day, drawing visitors and curious.
Here are numerous sport facilities, chalets and restaurants.
