Bucharest Gastronomy
A trip to Romania is also a good occasion to try the local cuisine, which is generally very good. The base elements of traditional cuisine are meat, cheese, vegetables, fish and polenta.
Here is a list of the most typical Romanian dishes:
- Â Ciorba:Â a sour soup made with bran and filled with vegetables, chicken or veal meat, or tripe.
- Tochitura cu mamaliguta - polenta with chopped meat
- Sarmale, meat or rice rolls prepared with cabbage or leaves of vine,
- Â Mititei, small meat balls made with pork, beef and chicken meat, flavoured with garlic and chilli pepper.
- Â Muschi, pork grilled meat served with mixed vegetables
- Mamaliga, polenta (to be eaten with sarmale, a traditional meal );
- Plăcinte – home made pasta filled with sweet cheese.
Wines :
Romanian wines are of very good quality. Among the white wines are the Cotnari, Tirnaveni, Dragasani Riesling, Traminer, Moscato,
whereas the most appreciated red wines are the Murfatlar and Dealul Mare.
